1. Help kids determine an overall budget for their gifting needs.

2. Brainstorm a list of people to give to (grandparents, siblings, teachers, babysitters, etc).

3. Determine how much they can spend on each gift, which gifts parents might help supplement, and creative low-cost ways to show their gratitude (handwritten notes, fresh-baked holiday cookies, homemade ornaments, etc).

4. Set expectations as a family before writing out receiving requests for the holiday season.

5. Stay mindful of shifting the focus from getting to giving.
